Information for Students
Students living on campus can play a huge role in increasing recycling at CMU. On average we currently recycle 36 tons of material each month. For each ton of paper recycled 17 trees are saved and our pollution is reduced by 75%. If each student living on campus commits to recycling we will be able to reach 40 tons of recycled material each month.
Recycling During Move-In
On Campus
It's easy just take the boxes that you used to pack your things to the closest recycling container. The containers, labeled cardboard recycling, are located near the trash dumpsters out side of your building. Ask your RA for more information or call the recycling hot line at 774-2000
Off Campus
Separate your boxes and other recyclables while moving in. You can drop your recyclables off at the Isabella County Material Recovery Facility free of charge. Curbside recycling is available to most Mt. Pleasant residents. Contact the Isabella County Materials Recovery Facility (773-9631) to learn about recycling options in your area
Living On Campus
University apartment residences, which include Kewadin, Northwest and Washington apartments, are provided with blue recycling tanks for individual tenants. Tanks are picked up every other Friday from the doorstep by Mid-Michigan Industries. For more information on recycling, contact your apartment supervisor.
- Cardboard placed in the compartments must be free of tape and staples, broken down and not bound
- Paper should preferably be in a translucent bag
- Catalogues, newspapers and magazines should be loose and unbound
- Glass should be brown or clear ONLY
- Plastic should be bottle, jugs and jars which have an opening smaller than the body of the container
Living Off Campus
Curbside recycling has been made available to students living in rooming houses. A rooming house is a rental with one or two dwelling units, licensed for three or more unrelated people in each unit. The cost of this service is $2 per month in addition to a one-time bin cost of $6. For more information or to sign up for this service call the Public Works Office at 779-5401.
The Isabella County Material Recovery Facility offers recycling at no charge to all Isabella county residents. Drop off recycling is available Monday through Thursday. For more information on drop off recycling contact the MRF (989) 773-9631.
