CMU is committed to the conservation of energy and other resources, and endeavors to practice sound energy policies that address economic and environmental concerns. CMU seeks to identify and implement effective, cost saving measures that address both the short term and long term needs of the university.

In the summer of 2001, President Rao appointed the Energy Conservation Commission to study and identify institutional measures to conserve energy, promote awareness and encourage energy saving suggestions .
